With more money available for transportation projects across the state, the Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded contracts for a number of projects, including several in northeast Georgia.
Total investment in this latest round of projects is $246.5 million; more than $49 million will be spent in 21 northeast Georgia counties.The Department’s awards total $100 million more than last month and reflect the largest monthly contract investment since 2006.
Last week, AccessWDUN reported on the largest project - the $44 million widening of seven miles of Athens Highway (US 129/SR11) between Gillsville and Talmo. In addition to the widening of the highway, the project also includes the construction of a bridge and its approaches over Allen Creek
Other northeast Georgia projects include:
- Construction and widening for realignment on Union Church Road, beginning at SR 53 and extending to SR 211 in Hall County
- Resurfacing of 2.784 miles on US 441/SR 15 in Banks County, beginning north of Faulkner Road and extending north of SR 164
- Resurfacing of 1.448 miles on SR 175 in Banks and Jackson counties, beginning at Steve Reynolds Industrial Parkway and extending to north of Faulkner Road
- Milling and plants mix resurfacing of 3.35 miles on SR 17 beginning at SR 17 and extending to SR 75 ALT in White County
