DAHLONEGA — Sam Tidaback crushed a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth but it was not enough to pull off the comeback over Young Harris as the University of North Georgia baseball team fell, 8-6, in game two of the Peach Belt Conference series. North Georgia slips to 20-16 overall and 10-13 in Peach Belt Conference play.
North Georgia jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first after Trevor Sams hit his 17th double of the season, bringing home Joshua Profit. Two batters later, Connor Hoover drove in Sams on a single through the right side to put UNG on top, 2-0.
Young Harris (12-24, 6-14) responded in the next frame with a Zach Beggs home run that tied the game, 2-2. After the Mountain Lions loaded the bases in the same inning, a RBI single and a fielder's choice put YHC up, 4-2.
The Nighthawks cut the lead to one in the bottom of the fourth when Devin Gearhart singled through the left side to score Hoover. Young Harris answered in the sixth on a Chris McGinnis RBI single that scored two Mountain Lions and pushed the YHC lead to 6-3.
After a Nick Sexton two-run single in the eighth, North Georgia attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth. With two on and no outs, Tidaback belted a three-run shot to left center. Sams hit a single in the next at-bat and moved around to third before the final out was recorded.
