ATHENS — Gainesville rebounded from a tough loss to Winder-Barrow on Wednesday with a huge 16-0 win over Cedar Shoals Thursday in Region 8-AAAAA.
Senbior Sam Carpenter tossed a no-hitter and struck out 12 in getting the five-inning win.
Ross Tipton had two hits and three RBI while Carpenter added two hits, including a home run and two RBI, to lead the Red Elephants (16-4, 13-2 Region 8-AAAAA). Marshall Scott and Fedrick Cardona each had two hits for Gainesville, which moved into second place one-half game ahead of Winder-Barrow. They sit one-half game behind first place Loganville.
The Red Elephants will be back in action on Monday playing host to the Jaguars at Ivey-Watson Field.
