The region races are beginning to heat up all across northeast Georgia.
In Region 8-AAAAA, Gainesville and Loganville played to a two-game draw and watched as Winder-Barrow pulled into a three-way tie for the lead last week. The Bulldoggs figure to be a major player down the stretch with series still remaining against both Gainesville and Loganville. The Red Elephants will open a two-gane series against fourth-place Heritage, Conyers on Wednesday while Loganville will be off in the latter part of the week.
In Region 7-AAA, things may begin to take a solid form with the top four teams battling it out this week. Unbeatens Franklin County and Dawson County will square off in a three-game series beginning in Carnesville on Tuesday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday in Dawsonville with the series winner taking the inside track toward a region title. Third and fourth place teams Lumpkin County and East Hall will start a three-game series in Rabbittown and then head to Dahlonega.
In Region 8-AAAA, Buford continues to roll along while North Hall suffered its first region loss of the season Friday against Stephens County. The Trojans will head to Toccoa on Monday looking for some revenge. Chestatee and White County will begin a two-series on Wednesday as both try to stay in the playoff race.
Region 8-AAA has seen some early jockeying but Elbert County so far has remained unbeaten. Things could change quickly this week. The Blue Devils will be put to the test this week taking on pitching-rich Jackson County in a three-game series starting Tuesday in Jefferson before playing a doubleheader on Friday in Elberton. Second-place Jefferson and third-place Hart County will play a three-game series starting in Jefferson on Tuesday.
