Challenged Child and Friends names new leader

Challenged Child and Friends has named a new CEO/Executive Director, hiring a woman who most recently worked for a private school in the area.

The Gainesville-based learning and intervention center organization's board of directors hired Jamie Reynolds, who had served as Development and Marketing Director at Lakeview Academy.  The Challenged Child and Friends board made the announcement Tuesday.

Reynolds will replace Cathy Drerup, who had served as interim executive director since late 2015.  Drerup, a fixture at the organization and past executive director, came out of retirement to serve in that role.

"Cathy Drerup has done an outstanding job leading the organization for so many years and I look forward to working with principal Carla Baker. She has shown great leadership since joining Challenged Child and Friends in December," Reynolds said in a press statement.

She is scheduled to begin work at Challenged Child and Friends on March 21.

"I look forward to being a part of a school that facilitates growth in all children-the uniqueness of Challenged Child and Friends is the integration of typical children and children who need more support," Reynolds stated.

She plans to implement new hours at the organization, but keep enrollment options of two, three and five days, according to a press statement.

Reynolds has a degree in nursing, is a co-creator of Wyngate Drive Creative Communications LLC in Gainesville and has been active on several boards in the area, including WomenSource, the American Cancer Society and Lakeview Academy.
