GAINESVILLE — Chestatee scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh but could not get the tying or winning run in a tough 6-5 loss to North Oconee Monday in Region 8-AAAA action.

Reggie James led off the bottom of the seventh with a single up the middle and started the scoring on a bases loaded walk. Jonathan Yearwood, Will Cantrell, Christian Carter, and Sean Irick all would reach base consecutively but Carter and Irick were left stranded in scoring position to end the game.

Irick led the War Eagles (3-8, 0-2 Region 8-AAAA) at the plate with a single, a RBI Triple, stolen base, and a run scored. Cameron Wilson also had an RBI single scoring Irick in the bottom of the fourth. Carter would score in the bottom of the sixth on Irick’s triple.

Braxton Nicholson got the start for the War Eagles pitching six innings giving up six runs, just three earned, with eight strikeouts. Cantrell pitched a perfect seventh, including a strikeout, to give the war Eagles a chance.

North Oconee (5-5, 2-0) completed the series sweep with the win. Chestatee will travel to Johnson on Wednesday.
