MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Piedmont softball team split its doubleheader against Maryville College on Sunday afternoon with a 12-8 victory and a 5-0 loss. Audrey Esakoff was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in game one with 3 RBI, 3 runs scored and a walk.
Sarah Walker earned the win in game one moving her record to 4-1 this season as she pitched the complete game. The Lady Lions totaled 16 hits to the Scots 10 as four Lady Lions had multi-hit games.
The scoring began early as it was a 3-3 tie after the first inning, but the Scots tacked on another three in the second to lead 6-3. Piedmont rallied back in the fourth inning however with a six run inning to regain the lead and never surrendered it.
Hannah Hoban continued her impressive run as she was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Hoban leads the team now with seven doubles, three home runs and tied for a team-best nine RBI.
In game two, offense was hard to come by for the Lady Lions as they managed just four hits in the contest but the Scots only had five hits but turned those in to five runs. The third inning was when Maryville did most of its damage with four runs on two hits and two errors.
Piedmont will host Lake Forest College on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Walker Athletic Complex.
