The USA South Athletic Conference has released its All-Conference awards for the 2015-16 season in men's basketball with Piedmont's Trae Gaines taking honorable mention honors on the prestigious listing. For the junior from Dewy Rose, Ga., this marks his first USA South all-conference award of his career.
Gaines has averaged 12.9 points per game, second best on the squad behind Chase England, with a total of 323 points this season. The junior guard has started every contest for the Lions this year with the third most minutes of any player on the team in the 2015-16 season.
Gaines has provided some big moments in his career for the Lions with a buzzer-beater against Maryville in the 2014-15 season and 24 points in 21 minutes off the bench that same year to lift the Lions to a historic victory over No. 6 Emory University.
Piedmont's lone senior Chris Meeks also earned recognition being picked as the Lions' representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
The Lions travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina for the USA South Championship Tournament beginning on Thursday afternoon taking on the No. 3 seed Greensboro College. Thursday's game begins at 1 p.m. as the opening game of the tournament with the winner advancing to face the winner of No. 7 William Peace vs. No. 2 Covenant on Friday.
