DAHLONEGA — Cierra Jackson scored her 1,000th career point as the University of North Georgia women's basketball team clinched a spot in the Peach Belt Conference tournament with a 69-56 win over USC Aiken Wednesday night in UNG's Memorial Hall.
After being held scoreless in the first half, Jackson scored 12 points in the second half, capped by a free throw with 35 seconds left in the contest to net point number 1,000.
USC Aiken led 5-0 in the first two minutes before the Nighthawks went on a 12-2 run to take the lead for good.
With the win, North Georgia improves to 17-9 and 9-8 in conference play. They are guaranteed at least fourth place in the West Division of the Peach Belt. USC Aiken falls to 9-17 and 4-13 in the Peach Belt with the loss.
Kelsey Hutchins notched her 24th game in a row in double figures with a game-high 23 points. She was 8-of-16 from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the arc.
Molly Rainwater hit four three-pointers on her way to 14 points. Jackson finished the night with her 16th double-double of the year as she pulled down 16 rebounds to go with her 12 points.
North Georgia will head down to Columbus State Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. tipoff against the Cougars.
