WINDER — Austin Sargent went six innings allowing just two hits, no runs, and fanning nine to lead Chestatee to a 4-2 win over Apalachee in its season-opener.
Sargent also added a two-run single in the top of the third inning. The War Eagles (1-0) broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh when Joe Sutton batted in Cameron Wilson for the go-ahead run. Sutton later scored on an error.
Braxton Nicholson closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh striking out two to notch the save for the War Eagles.
Chestatee next take on East Hall on Thursday at Piedmont College at 5:55 p.m.
