DAHLONEGA — The 15th ranked University of North Georgia baseball team's bats remained hot as the Nighthawks cruised to a 14-3 win Saturday afternoon over Kentucky Wesleyan.
Steven Tomlinson brought home the first two runs of the game for North Georgia. The first came in the third inning on a RBI double that scored Joshua Profit. Two innings later, Tomlinson brought home Profit again to make the score 2-0.
The Nighthawks put four more runs on the board in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The scoring in the sixth started with a Devin Gearhart double that brought home two RBI. After Profit was hit by a pitch, Tomlinson added two more RBI to his day on a single to left center.
Gearhart scored Trevor Sams with a sacrifice fly to center field in the seventh. Tomlinson had three more RBI in the inning on a double to right center.
In the eighth, Connor Hoover drove home the final two runs of the contest for North Georgia with a two RBI single up the middle.
Kentucky Wesleyan scored three in the ninth after loading the bases early in the inning. The three runs came across by virtue of walks or hit by pitch.
NOTES
- North Georgia improves to 6-1 with the win, while Kentucky Wesleyan slides to 3-2.
- Tomlinson had a total of seven RBI in the game, tying the all-time UNG record in a single game. The feat had been done five previous times with the most recent being in 2010.
- Steven Bower earned his second win of his collegiate career, improving his record to 2-1. He pitched six scoreless innings, giving up just five hits while striking out two.
- North Georgia has now hit 27 doubles in the young season after hitting five on Saturday afternoon.
