DAHLONEGA — Daniel McCrary pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-hit baseball and North Georgia put 11 runs on the board in just three innings as the No. 15 Nighthawks cruised to a series sweep of Carson-Newman with an 11-3 win Sunday afternoon.
McCrary came on in the third trailing 2-0 and retired 10 batters in a row. He retired 16 of the 17 batters he faced in the contest.
In the bottom of the third, North Georgia finally got on the board when Steven Tomlinson doubled down the right field line to score Erick Delgado. Three batters later, Sam Tidaback doubled to score two more to take the lead 3-2.
On the very next pitch, Trevor Sams doubled off the right-center wall to score Tidaback and put the Nighthawks up 4-2.
In the sixth, Tidaback led off the inning with a solo blast down the left field line. Later in the inning, Kevin Krupp brought home two more on a RBI single. The Nighthawks finished the scoring in the inning with a Tomlinson double that scored Krupp.
North Georgia added three more in the seventh when Ryan Tomita hit his first home run of the season to left field.
The win for McCrary is his first in 2016 and his second of his career. He struck out four during his outing.
Dustin Batson was tabbed with the loss for the Eagles after giving up six in 5.1 innings. He struck out five and allowed three walks.
Tidaback finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate, driving home three RBI and scoring three runs. Sams was 3-for-5, Tomita finished 2-for-4 and Tomlinson finished 3-for-4.
North Georgia improves to 4-1 on the year. Carson-Newman is still winless at 0-4.
UNG now holds a 11-5 advantage all-time against the Eagles and completes its third season series sweep of the Eagles in program history.
The Nighthawks end the season-opening home stand with a three-game set against Kentucky Wesleyan College. The series starts with a doubleheader on Sat., Feb. 13, at 1:00 p.m.
