UPDATE: Gwinnett Police searching for suspect in Lilburn death case

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Gwinnett County police are actively searching the Lawrenceville area for a suspect in the case of a man who died Saturday after a reported shooting.

Gwinnett County Police Sergeant Jake Smith says officers and detectives are searching in the area of Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville, telling citizens that they may see increased police activity and asking anyone who sees suspicious activity in the area to call 911.

The case started Saturday when police say they were called to a shooting near Darling Court when they found a black car parked outside of Childtime Daycare. The female driver said her passenger had been shot.

The 21-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital, but died of his injuries. Police say they do not believe the shooting happened at the daycare, saying the driver may have stopped there to tend to the victim.

The victim's name has not been released. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Gwinnett County authorities by calling 770-513-5300. Those who want to report anonymously can call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.

Crime Stoppers says tips that lead to an arrest and indictment can receive up to $2,000 in reward.
