A Gainesville man died Tuesday when he was hit by a car while crossing Buford Highway near Herrington Road in Norcross.
Miguel Avila, 58, of Gainesville was not in a cross walk when he was hit by Victor Gomez-Bocanegra, 47, of Norcross, according to a police report from Gwinnett County Police.
Gomez-Bocanegra allegedly tried to leave the scene after officers arrived, and had to be physically stopped by an officer.
He was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run, obstruction and driving without a license.
Gomez-Bocanegra also had an oustanding warrant for a separate traffic offense in Gwinnett County.
According to the report, Avila was hit by at least two other vehicles, both of which fled the scene.
