CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in NAIA Division I Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell short to Edward Waters, 48-38. The loss is the first of the season at home for TMU.
The Bears and Tigers were caught in a defensive battle for the first half. Both teams scored just seven points in the first period. EWC came out hot in the second quarter, starting on a 9-0 run, but the Bears answered with a 9-0 run of their own to keep the game close.
The second half started the same as the first with both teams playing stellar defense. The Bears tied the game up going to the final quarter, but the Tigers' defense stood strong at the end of the day, holding TMU to just eight points in the final frame.
Janae' Simpson led the way with 12 points and 11 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season.
The Bears will now rest until January 3 when they jump back into AAC play at home against St. Andrews. Tip off will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Bear Cave.
