As Truett McConnell University's new multi-million dollar George Blaurock Student Wellness Center nears completion, the University is making a push to raise as much as a half-million dollars before next spring.

A press statement from Truett-McConnell says it has opened up a number of naming opportunities in the facility based on donations.

“The cost of the building is $13.3 million dollars which includes fixtures and furniture,”  said Dr. Gary Jarnagin, TMU Director of Advancement, in a press release.“We have roughly spent $6.8 million thus far on the building. We are in our Finish Strong campaign and we hope to raise between $300,000 and $500,000 between now and April 1, 2017.

The wellness center is the largest capital project in university history, according to the press release.

The 69,000 sq. ft. project will include an aquatic center, aerobics room, fitness center, racquetball courts and restaurant, among other amenities.

As of this month, the aquatic center excavation is complete and the interior infrastructure for electrical and plumbing is being completed. Finishing touches on the roof and siding, with the exception of the southeast-end, will be the next to be completed over the next 90 days.

The next goal for TMU,” Jarnagin said, “is to begin looking at scheduling the grand-opening on or near April 1, 2017.  The primary parties will be meeting in early January to begin to plan the festivities schedule surrounding the opening of the largest foot-print on campus, the George Blaurock Student Wellness Center.”
