DEMOREST — Including last season's three straight victories to win a USA South title, the Piedmont College women's soccer team has now posted its longest USA South postseason winning streak with a 4-0 shutout earlier Wednesday afternoon over Huntingdon College in the first round of the USA South Championship Tournament.
Piedmont picked up three goals in the first half and another in the second to cruise to the home victory earning the right to face No. 2 seed Covenant College on Saturday in Lookout Mountain with the Scots having earned a bye through today's first round action.
Morgan Edelman had the first score for PC with a header off a Tori Gillett corner kick in just the 9th minute of play with her goal going down as the eventual gamewinner. Cassidy Reich calmly volleyed home the second goal of the day with her left foot on another set piece opportunity before defender Natalie Munoz got a toe on the ball in the 28th minute to put PC up 3-0.
A late finish by Courtney Bell to the far post in the 81st minute set the final at 4-0 Piedmont giving another postseason victory to the Lady Lions who will now battle with Covenant on Saturday for the right to go to the semifinals.
