By AccessWDUN staff

More than 50 tons of debris was pulled from Lake Lanier during this year's Shore Sweep, organizers said Tuesday.

Joanna Cloud, Executive Director of the Lake Lanier Association, says Hall County sites alone contributed 23.76 tons during the one-day event which was held Sept. 27. Sites participating in Hall County included Aqualand and Gainesville marinas, Balus Creek and Big Creek boat launch sites, Don Carter State Park, Lanier Islands, Lanier Olympic Center and Longwood Park.

More than 1,100 volunteers turned out this year.  Local governments and other local organizations helped, as well, by providing equipment and manpower.
