SUGAR HILL — Lanier maintained its spot atop Region 8-AAAAAA on Friday night, knocking off Habersham Central 31-9 in Sugar Hill.
The Longhorns (5-2, 2-0 Region 8-AAAAAA) held the Raiders (4-3, 0-2) offense in check, as standout running back Michael Babers managed just 48 yards rushing and quaterback Cole Wilbanks finished with 83 yards passing.
Meanwhile, Lanier's offense ground out plenty of rushing behind Tywon Reeves, who finished with 113 yards on 23 carries. Longhorns quarterback Noah Fritz also went 9 of 18 through the air for 111 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Jake Jones led the Habersham defense with nine tackles.
The Raiders will look to rebound against Dacula next week -- the Falcons are tied atop the region standings after knocking off Gainesville on Friday.
Lanier, meanwhile, will take on Apalachee in Sugar Hill next week.
