A Gwinnett County woman has been arrested in Hall County after authorities said she was so intoxicated she left her child in a car with the keys in the ignition and couldn't remember where she left the vehicle.
The alleged incident happened Sunday night at Lake Lanier Islands, according to Hall County deputies.
Lt. Scott Ware said 41-year-old Gwendolyn Claire Truby of Dacula was arrested when she entered a wedding party and started asking for drinks.
"She wandered into the wedding - she wasn't a guest," Ware said. "She was asking for drinks and went up to the bar and took a drink...took, as in stole, a drink."
Ware said witnesses told deputies that Truby was looking for her son. She apparently could not remember where she had left him or her car. Lake Lanier Islands security and Hall County deputies began to search and found the car.
"Her vehicle was located with her 6-year-old son asleep in the back seat," Ware said. "The vehicle was parked off of a parking area on a dirt terrain about 40 yards from the lake. The vehicle had the keys in the ignition and the transmission was in neutral.'
Ware said there was a drop in the terrain that made the location of the vehicle dangerous.
He said the child was released to his father.
Truby has been charged with public drunkenness, reckless conduct and felony cruelty to children.
