The Georgia High School Association has announced that there will likely be changes to the state playoff schedule in both softball and volleyball.
Due to the inclement weather that Hurricane Matthew brought to the state, several region and area tournaments were postponed last week, meaning that the state postseason -- due to start this week -- could be effected in several classifications.
Below is the GHSA's press release concerning the subject:
Damage and power outages from Hurricane Matthew may cause the postponement of GHSA playoff events this week. The GHSA office will waive certain rules and work with member schools on a case-by-case basis if they are not able to stick to the original schedule.
In Volleyball, the schedule for Oct. 18(second round playoff games for Class A and Classes 3A-7A, and the first round for Class 2A) will be moved to Oct. 20 in order to allow the completion of several Area tournaments and then first round matches in Classes A and 3A through 7A.
But in Volleyball, as well as Softball, the originally published schedule for this week’s playoff contests should be adhered to if at all possible.
