COAL MOUNTAIN — North Forsyth won its region opener for the first since 2013 after knocking county-rival Forsyth Central 28-15 Friday night.
The Raiders (4-2, 1-0 Region 5-AAAAAAA) never trailed after Carter Mullikin scored on a 1-yard run in the first. Simon Holcombe added a 2-point for an 8-0 lead.
Forsyth Central cut the lead to 8-7 later in the quarter but never got any closer.
North Forsyth extended the lead to 18-7 by halftime on a 10-yard touchdown run by Griffin Heffington and a 38-yard field goal by Arthur Boyzo.
Bryson Trigg pushed the lead to 25-7 in the third quarter on a 2-yard run. The Bulldogs trimmed the lead to 25-15 on a 39-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter but Boyzo added a 36-yard field goal for the final score later in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders piled up 430 yards of offense, including 240 on the ground.
Heffington finished with 125 yards on 16 carries and Holcombe had six catches for 86 yards for North Forsyth.
