Softball: East Hall charges to 7-AAA title

GAINESVILLE — East Hall softball stormed its way to the Region 7-AAA title on Wednesday in Gainesville.

The Lady Vikings blanked North Hall 8-0 in the title game, taking advantage of a strong pitching performance from Steffanie Redmon, who earned a complete game shutout. Redmon scattered five hits over seven innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Kaitlin Daniel proved East Hall's offensive standout, going 3 for 4 with a home run, double and a run scored.

Daniel helped East Hall to get things going in the first inning, plating two runs via her double. She struck again in the third inning, belting a two-run home run.  East Hall tacked on a single run in the fifth inning and three more in the seventh inning.  Carli Cox (1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Jennifer Lopez (1-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 run) also drove in runs from the Lady Vikings. 

North Hall finished as the region runner-up. Both teams await the start of the state tournament next week (Oct. 12).

The Lady Trojans opened the day with an 8-2 win over Lumpkin County in the 7-AAA semifinals.  The Lady Trojans picked up three runs in the first inning on base hits by Macy Clark (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Kadie Sullens (2-for-3, 4 RBI).  Ashlyn Brewster and Julian Garrett scored runs in the second inning on another hit by Sullens.  Niki Carver (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning that allowed Carson Negley to cross the plate.  Charli Shepheard and Camilla Howell also had hits for North Hall.  

Shepheard pitched seven innings to earn the complete game win.  She allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four batters.
