Widening project on Ga. 400 northound complete in South Forsyth

Officials on Wednesday cut the ribbon to open a new lane on Ga. 400 northbound in South Forsyth.

The newly-widened portion of the highway stretches eight males between McFarland Parkway (Exit 12) and Ga. 20 (Exit 14), according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

“I’m pleased that the citizens of Forsyth County and travelers along SR 400 get an early win by opening eight miles today while the remainder of the project is ongoing. This was accomplished by innovative contracting to provide congestion relief,” said Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell McMurry.

The project cost $47.5 million, with $34.5 million coming from the Forsyth County Transportation Bond and the remainder coming from GDOT.

The remaining portion of the northbound expansion project, which will stretch from Ga. 20 to Ga. 369, is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2017. The entire project (in both directions of the roadway) is slated for completion in October 2018.
