BUFORD — No. 1 Buford dropped into the loser's bracket of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament after a 7-0 loss to No. 2 Walnut Grove Tuesday.

The loss snapped Buford's 40-game post-season winning streak. The Lady Wolves (21-2) also had won 20 straight post-season games at home.

Buford opened the tournament with an 8-1 victory over Flowery Branch in the first round of the double-elimination tournament. Ashley Byers toosed a five-hit, complete-game effort to get the win.

Rebecca Wilson had two hits and four RBI to lead a 14-hit attack for Buford. The Lady Wolves also scored three big runs in the third inning on a Flowery Branch error with the bases loaded.

Shea Bayreuther added a RBI single in the sixth.

Against Walnut Grove, Logan Caymol suffered her first loss of the season. The Lady Warriors got a first inning lead-off home run to start the game and never looked back.

Walnut Grove added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and sealed the win with three runs in the seventh off reliever Payton Shells.

Buford next will play the winner of the Flowery Branch-Loganville game in the elimination bracket on Wednesday. The winner of that set of games will play Walnut Grove on Thursday in the championship round.

All the games are being played at the Buford softball field.
