Pair of corner kicks helps Piedmont women past LaGrange

By AccessWDUN Staff

DEMOREST — Playing in conference the second time in two days, the Piedmont College women's soccer team used a pair of headers on corner kicks to get a 2-0 win over LaGrange College early Sunday afternoon.

Piedmont controlled the run of play throughout only giving up one shot to the opposition which went wide of the post. Meanwhile, the Lady Lions applied pressure on the LaGrange back line that allowed 14 corners to be earned by the home team.

On one of nine corners in the first half, a Haley Hall driven ball found the head of Morgan Edelman who promptly fired it past LaGrange keeper Jesse Grogan for a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play.

With more pressure mounting, another corner kick, this time served in by Tori Gillett, found a charging Savannah Catles who headed it in off the crossbar as Piedmont capitalized on another set piece opportunity.

The goal in the 39th minute by Castles would be the final one of the afternoon as Piedmont picked up another shutout victory in conference play.
