DAHLONEGA — Augusta University's Breonna O'Conner scored a game-high 27 points to lead the visiting Jaguars to a 76-70 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of North Georgia women's basketball team on Thursday evening in UNG's Memorial Hall.
Kelsey Hutchins scored a team-best 19 points on 8-of-14 from the floor. Cierra Jackson pitched in with her seventh double-double with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Molly Rainwater added 10 points.
The loss snapped a season-opening 10-game home winning streak for the Nighthawks as they fall to 11-3 overall and 3-2 in league play. Augusta improves to 11-3 as the Jaguars move into a tie for the PBC East Division lead with a 4-1 conference mark.
Augusta's Kayla Lovett and Kariel Hutt helped the Jaguars' cause with 15 and 12 points respectively.
The Nighthawks assisted on 17 of their 25 field goals, but were plagued by 21 turnovers of which Augusta converted into 33 points on the other end.
Augusta led by 12 (46-34) just 1:39 into the third quarter, but the Nighthawks used a 15-0 run to take a 49-46 lead four minutes later. The Jaguars responded with an 8-0 run of their own to jump back ahead 54-49 and they would lead for the remainder of the contest.
North Georgia hosts Clayton State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Hall.
