TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of North Georgia baseball program landed at 15 in the 2016 Collegiate Baseball Division II preseason poll. The Nighthawks look to build on one of the best seasons in program history in last year's campaign that saw the team's first-ever Peach Belt Conference regular season crown and the program's first trip to an NCAA Regional final.
UNG was ranked 19th in the final Collegiate Baseball poll of 2015 after finishing 38-17 and being eliminated in the NCAA Southeast Regional final by Catawba, the eventual national runner-up. The Nightawks return six position starters from last year's squad along with one of the deepest and most experienced pitching staffs in the region.
North Georgia will open up its 2016 slate hosting a doubleheader against Valdosta State on Saturday, Jan. 30 at Noon at Bob Stein Stadium in Dahlonega.
