Boy Scout building new crosses to be used by Gainesville group to honor local war dead

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - A Boy Scout from Flowery Branch is building new crosses that a Gainesville group will place on a hillside across from Lakeshore Mall.

Crosses are placed there every Memorial Day and Veterans Day, along Dawsonville Highway, by Gainesville Masonic Lodge #215 F. & A.M. to honor local war dead.  The ones now in use have been in use 15 years.

Zachery David Martin Troop 130 of Flowery Branch is building the crosses and it's expected to take him 100 man hours to finish the work.

Martin is a Life Rank member of his scout troop and has taken on the cross construction as his Eagle Scout Project.

They will be presented to the lodge Oct. 24 at 1:00 at a rededication of its Veterans Memorial Garden.  The event will be open to the public.
