DEMOREST — Piedmont scored first and took another lead moments later, but saw North Carolina Wesleyan College equalize twice before scoring three more to earn a 5-2 victory over the hosting Lions in USA South men's soccer action earlier today at Walker Athletic Complex.
Piedmont's Chase Kane scored just over six minutes into the contest but NC Wesleyan equalized less than 90 seconds later to make it a 1-1 contest on Sheriff Secka's score for the Bishops. Kane would get another in the 10th minute to make it 2-1 Piedmont, but the Bishops proceeded to rattle off four straight to overtake the Lions in a 5-2 decision.
Anthon Appelquist scored twice for the Bishops on back-to-back efforts in ten minutes. NC Wesleyan scored twice in the second half with Sebastian Wiiala and Caetano Viegas finding the net.
The loss drops Piedmont to 1-3-2 on the season as the Lions start 0-1 in USA South play in 2015.
Turning Point
--Sheriff Secka's score that equalized the game just 79 seconds after CHASE KANE opened the game with a score in just the 7th minute of play...Secka's goal took away the early momentum from the home team.
Standout Performances
-- Kane scored twice with both of his goals coming in the first nine minutes of play as he doubled his season total with now four goals on the year.
-- For NC Wesleyan, it was the play of Anthon Appelquist who tallied two goals in a ten minute span to help the Battling Bishops stay in the game and take a 3-2 lead only 22 minutes into the contest.

-- Piedmont was out-shot 16-7 in the contest with 10 of NC Wesleyan's shots finding the target.
-- The attack was well-balanced for the Battling Bishops with five different players taking at least two shots each led by Appelquist's trio with two of those finding the net.
News & Notes
-- The only three meetings between these two programs from Piedmont's NCAA Era (since 2003) coming into today needed overtime with the Lions earning a 1-1-1 record in those meetings.
-- The loss is the first at home for Piedmont in the series as the only meeting prior at Walker Athletic Complex was the Lions' dramatic two-goal comeback in the closing minutes of regulation before VINCENT THOMAS' gamewinner in OT as first aired live on the Mane Event Broadcasting Network.
-- That 3-2 win for PC came in the 2013 season.

Traveling up to Carolina for a matchup with William Peace University on Friday, September 25 before the Lions will head up to Virginia to play Danville on September 26. Piedmont defeated William Peace 5-1 in the two's first-ever meeting, the Pacers began men's soccer just a few seasons ago with last year being their first year on the USA South regular season schedule.
