SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The No. 19 University of North Georgia women's soccer team continued their winning ways Saturday evening with a 3-0 road victory at Converse. The Nighthawks move to 2-0 on the season while the Valkyries drop to 0-2.
North Georgia scored all three of its goals in the first half of play with Jacy Ramey starting the frenzy in the 14th minute. Ramy scored with a tap-in off a saved shot by Jessica Allen.
Mollie Arrendale scored her third goal of the season in the 25th minute on a through ball from Rachel VanHorn. UNG scored again in the 40-th minute as Michaela Sundstrom picked up her first career goal as a Nighthawk with the assist coming from Ramey to give North Georgia the 3-0 lead that it would never relinquish.
NOTES
- Freshman midfielder Michaela Sundstrom became the first international player to score a goal for UNG in the NCAA era (2005-present).
- UNG has now recorded back-to-back shutouts. The Nighthawks accomplished that feat on two separate occasions last season. The last time North Georgia recorded three consecutive shutouts was Sept. 10-20 in 2011 against USC Aiken, UNC Pembroke and Belmont Abbey.
- The shutout is the 19th in Mallory Sayre's career, extending her school record.
