Butts Co. man gets life behind bars in death of Forsyth Co. child

By B.J. Williams

CUMMING — A 26-year-old Butts County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son in Forsyth County.

Penny Penn, the District Attorney for the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit, said the trial for Christopher Truett began August 19 and ended this past Friday with his conviction on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated battery and cruelty to children.

Wyatt Pruitt died of blunt force trauma on February 25, 2014. On the day of the murder, the child's mother left him in the care of Truett at her home in the Bridgetowne subdivision off Brown's Bridge Road while she was at work. The child was found unresponsive in the home around 11 a.m. that day and died 45 minutes later at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.

The state asked for the life sentence without the possibility of parole, according to Penn, and the judge imposed the sentence Friday in Forsyth County Superior Court.
