JASPER — White County could not pull off a late fightback at Pickens on Friday, falling 13-6 in Jasper.
The Warriors (0-1) moved into Pickens territory late in the contest but could not convert a fourth-and-11 attempt, allowing the Dragons to seal the win.
Kaleb Crane scored on a seven-yard touchdown run in the second half to stake White County to a 6-3 lead (following a missed point-after touchdown attempt). Yet Pickens responded with a 75-yard scoring drive of its own, taking a 10-6 lead with nine minutes remaining.
The Warriors --as they had all game -- hung tough, however, and White County's special teams gave it one last chance, fielding a field goal attempt that fell short and returning it into Pickens territory. Yet the Dragons defense held firm.
White County will play host to Jackson County next Friday.
