Hiawassee residents charged with armed robbery

YOUNG HARRIS - Three people have been charged after a reported armed robbery/home invasion in Young Harris late last week.

According to the Towns County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at a home on Kerby Road in Young Harris around 9:40 p.m. Thursday. The victim was able to provide descriptions of those involved, and reported they were armed with a handgun.

Towns County deputies and a Hiawassee police officer spotted the suspect vehicle at a business on Highway 76 in Hiawassee, where the three suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Three individuals were charged with one count each of armed robbery and one count each of burglary: Steven Mathew Anderson, 28; Jerry Laverne Alferink, 36; and Kathryn Savannah Mumpower, 22. All three are residents of Hiawassee.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges are likely.

No bond has been set for the three as of Monday.
