The Gwinnett County Police Department is looking to identify a suspect in two attempted armed robbery cases.
According to a release from the department, officers were called to a check-cashing business on Satellite Blvd. in unincorporated Duluth on Jan. 14 at 9:15 a.m. Gwinnett County 911 dispatch advised officers that an armed individual attempted to rob the business and discharged at least one gunshot through the establishment’s front door before fleeing the location on foot.
Once authorities arrived at the scene, a victim said she entered the business through the front door, which is set to close automatically once someone enters. Moments later, a suspect described as a black male wearing a white jacket and a face mask reportedly began banging on the lobby door. The suspect then pointed a firearm at her and demanded she open the door.
The victim said she pressed the panic button, at which point the suspect fired a shot and shattered the business’ front glass door. The suspect then entered the building and demanded the victim open the location’s safe.
The suspect fled the scene on foot after the victim said she could not open the safe.
Two days after that initial incident, a suspect matching the description also attempted an armed robbery on Jan. 16 at a check-cashing business in Smyrna. Investigators from Gwinnett County Police and Smyrna Police believe the same individual is responsible for both incidents, according to GCPD.
