FLOWERY BRANCH — Senior Baylee Sexton broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with a game-winning single to left field, scoring senior Lea Edwards to give Buford a 6-5 victory over Loganville Friday night in girls softball action in the Hawk/Bulldog Tournament.
The Lady Wolves (4-1) led 3-0 before the Lady Red Devils scored four runs in the fourth and added a run in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. Buford rallied to tie the game in the fifth when Gabby Benson scored on a wild pitch and Brenna Gutierrez scored on a Kennedy Kotula double.
Senior Peyton Wolfe got a no decision going 3 1/3 innings striking out one and allowing four runs (no earned). Sophomore Logan Caymol pitched the final inning fanning two to pick up her first-ever varsity win in the circle.
Sexton finished with three hits, two RBI, and two stolen bases to lead the Buford offense. Senior Drew Puckett and Benson each had one hit for the Lady Wolves.
Buford will resume play Saturday in the Hawk/Bulldog tournament taking on Collins Hill at 9 a.m. and Archer at 1 p.m.
