Zales jewelry store robbed at Dawsonville outlet mall, suspect on the run

By B.J. Williams

DAWSONVILLE — The Zales jewelry store at North Georgia Premium Outlets on Georgia 400 was robbed at gunpoint just after it opened Wednesday morning.

Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said the suspect is a white woman, about 5'5".

"The female was wearing a dark-colored ball cap, a blue button-up shirt and khaki pants," said Wooten. "She basically brandished a gun, took two employees in the store to the back and zip-tied them."

Wooten said the employees were able to get out of the zip ties and call 911, but not before the woman got away with an undisclosed amount of jewelry.

"We did a canvas of the stores nearby at the outlet mall, went and talked to several other businesses around looking for video evidence to aid us in the investigation," said Wooten.

Wooten said armed robberies are rare in Dawson County - and more rare at the popular outlet mall.

"I've been here 17 and a half years and I believe this is twice that I can remember off the top of my head that something like this has happened," said Wooten. "It is something we're not used to, but something that we hope that we've got enough video evidence to...solve this case quickly."

Anyone who might have information on the hold-up can call the Dawson County Sheriff's Office at 706-344-3535.
