Confirmed: Forsyth County election headed to run-off

CUMMING - One ballot has separated Sheri Smallwood Gilligan from confirming the title of State Representative for District 24.

According to Forsyth County Elections Supervisor Barbara Luth, three provisional votes were certified Friday and one of those votes was cast in favor of David M. Van Sant.

Bluth said that vote means a run-off election. She said the state will certify the votes on Monday as well.

Gilligan took home 49.97% of the unofficial votes, and Van Sant claimed 24.55%. However, in order to take the title of State Representative, Gilligan needed 50% of the vote plus one.

The election was held Tuesday, and the date for the run-off has not been set.
