GAINESVILLE — The inaugural FCA East-West Classic baseball game at Lakeview Academy Saturday ended the way it started, with both teams tied.
Former West Hall player Houston Quesenberry hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5 with one out for the West team and it ended that way.
The East squad looked to have the game in hand. Ben Walker of Riverside Military Academy had two-run double and later scored on a RBI single by Jefferson’s Ethan Garner for a 4-2 lead. East pushed its lead to 5-3 in the top of the ninth when Jake Franklin of Jefferson scored on a wild pitch.
The West pulled within 4-3 when Chandler Rodgers of Commerce scored from second on a bad throw on a pickoff at second.
The game highlighted some of the area’s best talent featuring players from 13 different high schools. The event will move to Jefferson High School next year.
