By B.J. Williams

GAINESVILLE - Zack Thompson, co-owner of Professional Touch Landscapes, has announced his intention to run for the Ward 2 seat on the Gainesville City Council, the post held since 1969 by incumbent Bob Hamrick.

In a press statement Thompson said he thinks the city is ready for what he called a new generation of representation.

"I am ready and willing to bring a more progressive approach to the challenges and issues facing our city,” said Thompson.

Thompson is a 1991 graduate of Gainesville High School. He attended the University of Georgia and received a BSA degree in Horticulture in 1995. Thompson began operation of Professional Touch Landscapes in 1997.

In addition, Thompson has served on the Challenged Child and Friends Board of Directors since 2010. Just this year, he was appointed to the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board.

His wife Ali is employed at the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville as the Children’s Director; their two daughters attend Gainesville City schools.
