Local businessman Jonathan Elliott announces Gainesville City Council bid

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

Jonathan Elliott has announced his run for Gainesville City Council Ward 2.

“As someone who has spent my life in Hall County, I want to take an active role in shaping the future of our city,” Elliott said. “Gainesville has seen tremendous progress under the leadership of our current City Council, including Zach Thompson, and I want to build on that success. It’s important that we continue fostering economic opportunity, investing in infrastructure, and making thoughtful decisions that benefit both residents and businesses.”

Elliott has spent 20 years operating a local trucking company for Gainesville’s poultry industry before transitioning into real estate two years ago, joining Candler Real Estate as a commercial agent.

Elliott said in a release his campaign will focus on responsible growth, improving infrastructure, and making sure Gainesville continues to be a place where families and businesses can thrive.

Elliott’s immediate family includes his wife Karen and two sons, Walker and Wyatt. Walker will soon graduate from Ole Miss and Wyatt currently attends Lakeview Academy.

The election is set for November of 2026 after Thompson announced his candidacy for Mayor.
