GAINESVILLE—Hall County commissioners are set to approve a $99,800 repair to a culvert along Calvary Church Road, replacing a pipe that has worn down.
Public Works Director Ken Rearden said at Monday morning's commission work session that the contract would be rewarded to E.R. Snell, a contracting company out of Snellville in Gwinnett County.
"They will dig the road up, replace the pipe, dispose of it, and replace it with (a) 60-inch reinforced concrete pipe," said Rearden.
The work is expected to take two to three weeks, depending on the weather, and the roadway will be completely shutdown during that time frame.
Rearden said they are planning to do it in the summer, after school lets out.
"It's where the dam is at Chicopee Lake. There's a creek that runs off of that dam, and it's in that area," said Rearden.
E.R. Snell provided the lower of two bids for the project. The other bidder was Simpson's Trucking and Grading, Inc. of Gainesville.
"Simpson's (bid) was significantly higher," said Rearden.
Nearly double, in fact. Simpson's bid for the work came in at $188,960.
Commissioners added the item to the consent agenda for Thursday's voting session, where it will face final approval.
