DANIELSVILLE -- The Chestatee boys tennis team advanced to the state tournament for the third consecutive year by upsetting Buford in the Region 8-AAAA tournament on Tuesday in Danielsville.

The War Eagles grabbed the win thanks to a third set tiebreak at No. 1 doubles, as the team of Hunter Creamer/Logan Gruenenfelder rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) victory.

Tyler Burgess picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Chestatee's Austin Passmore also won, defeating Buford's Kurt Knudsen when the Wolves No. 3 singles player was forced to retire due to illness/exhaustion.

Buford's Dalton Counts won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and the Wolves claimed the No. 2 doubles point behind Garrett Jordan/Caleb Harris, winning 6-1, 6-2.

Chestatee's boys faced a quick turnaround, falling to No. 1 seed North Oconee 3-0 in the semifinals. The War Eagles will face Madison County in the third place match at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Danielsville.

Meanwhile, the Chestatee girls tennis season ended with a 3-0 loss to North Oconee on Tuesday in the Region 8-AAAA tournament. The result ended a two-year run of state tournament appearances for Chestatee coach Becky Whitton and seniors Haley King and Grace Brown.  King will attend and play for Oglethorpe University next year, and Brown finished the season with an 8-2 record.  Chestatee also loses first-year seniors Maddie Myers and Holly Baxter.
