GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) A Georgia doctor faces more charges in a federal case in which prosecutors say he ran an illegal prescription drug business with the help of Mississippi casino workers.
The Sun Herald reports 49-year-old Sanjay Sinha, of Woodstock, Georgia, had his indictment amended for a third time Tuesday, bringing his total charge count to 40. Sinha declined to accept a plea deal last month.
Federal drug enforcement agents and prosecutors have said Sinha is not licensed to practice medicine in Mississippi but has written hundreds of prescriptions for painkillers.
The indictment states the conspiracy started as early as 2008.
Sinha was arrested in 2014. His trial date is set for April 20.
