ATLANTA -- Mays proved why it is No. 1 in Class AAAAA.
The Lady Raiders used their quickness, height, and aggressive defense to dominate Gainesville 47-25 Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Class AAAAA playoffs at the Mays gym.
They out-defensed a quick Gainesville team forcing 17 turnovers, including nine steals, and turning them into 22 points. They lobbed passes over the smaller Lady Red Elephants into 6-foot-2 Tulane-signee Harlyn Wyatt, and finished with a game-high 13 points, and held Gainesville to just a pair of free throws in an 11-minute span.
The loss for the Lady Red Elephants closed out a 22-9 season that exceeded any expectations of coach Brenda Hill-Gilmore before the season.
