GAINESVILLE - The owners of Longstreet Clinic, who want to close a section of Broad Street near Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, are asking that they be allowed to withdraw the request.

According to the agenda for Tuesday's Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board meeting, the applicant needs additional time to study the impacts to the surrounding area and to further discuss the proposal with others. If the withdrawal is approved by the planning board at Tuesday's meeting, a new application cannot be submitted until six months after the date of withdrawal.

The matter was first tabled at the August 12, 2014 Planning and Appeals Board meeting and was again tabled on October 14, 2014.

Medical Arts Properties, L.P. is proposing to abandon a 561-foot portion of Broad Street between Prior and Spring streets. The adjacent properties are owned by the applicant and include the Longstreet Clinic medical offices, parking deck/lots and green space. For this reason, according to the agenda, the applicant would like to have the ability to adjoin the adjacent tracts to allow better flexibility for the future use of the property.

The segment of Broad Street in question contains a raised pedestrian cross walk, three private access driveways, 16 on-street parking spaces and an eight-inch city water line. The city's Planning Division staff is recommending withdrawal of the request until more details can be provided by the applicant. The planning and appeals board meeting Tuesday at 5:30 at the Gainesville Justice Center/Public Safety Building.
