Elderly man struck by vehicle on 441 at Banks Crossing

The Georgia State Patrol reports an elderly man suffered minor injuries while attempting to cross Georgia Highway 15 (U.S. 441) at Banks Crossing about 5 p.m. Thursday.

Sgt. Anthony Coleman of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville said 79-year-old Bobby Gipson of Atkins, Ark., was attempting to cross Georgia 15 in front of the Waffle House in order to get back to T/A Truck Stop on the opposite side of the road.

He was struck by a Dodge truck driven by 51-year-old Douglas Stephens of Nicholson.

Gipson, who was not crossing in a marked pedestrian crossing, "was struck at a very low speed by a vehicle entering GA 15 to travel south from the driveway leading to the steakhouse, Waffle House and motel," Coleman said. "It is very minor."

Gipson was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Northridge Medical Center in Commerce for treatment of minor injuries.
