DEMOREST - Longtime former Habersham County Clerk of Court Ernest Nations Jr. died Sunday, Nov. 29, following an extended illness.
Nations, who served as clerk of court for 32 years, was 80.
In addition to those eight terms as clerk of court, he taught in the Habersham County School System for 13 years; served as chairman of the Board of Supervisors for the Upper Chattahoochee Soil and Water Conservation District for 25 years; and served as treasurer for the Rural Conservation and Development.
Nations also served as High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons, and was a member and former chairman of deacons, secretary and treasurer, and Sunday school teacher at Stonepile Baptist Church in Clarkesville. The Habersham County native was active in farming operations.
Nations' family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, Nov. 30, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, in Demorest.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church in Demorest. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Temple C. H. Church WMU Hospice Fund at 388 Bethel Temple Rd, Clarkesville, GA 30523, to help with the needs of Hospice patients.
