GAINESVILLE — Ten Gainesville High School students were selected as the Gainesville City School District Governor’s Honors Program nominees. A press statement identified the 10 as Boone Alexander (Social Studies), Thomas Alexander (Mathematics), Guillermo Beltran (Science), Sophia Casey (Communicative Arts), Daniel Cannon (Communicative Arts), David Davenport (Social Studies), Anna Diaz (Dance), Sarah Hastings (Visual Arts), Ally Kimpling (Theatre), and Michelle Razo (Communicative Arts).
The district nominees will compete at the state level for an opportunity to attend the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program next summer. Students must complete an online application and a task or performance related to their subject area. After online submissions from students throughout the state of Georgia have been evaluated, a select number of qualified students will interview at the state semi-finals. In March, the top finalists will be notified of their selection to the program which will be held at Valdosta State University in June and July 2016.
The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who are rising juniors and seniors. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom designed to provide students with academic, cultural and social enrichment.
