SAVANNAH - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the public comment period for the Glades Reservoir Project EIS Draft in northern Hall County an additional 45 days.
According to a public notice from the Corps, the deadline for public comment is now February 15, 2016.
A public hearing and open house set for December 8 is still on the calendar. That hearing is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Hall County Board of Commissioners' Auditorium, located at 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, with the hearing set to begin at 6 p.m.
Citizens can also make comment on the Corps website, by emailing [email protected], or by writing a letter to Commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Attention: Regulatory Division SAS-2007-00388, 100 West Oglethorpe Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31401-3640
Hall County filed the initial Clean Water Act Section 404 Permit Application for the project in February 2007. The proposal calls for a 140-foot high earthen dam creating an 850-acre reservoir, according to the Corps.
The reservoir and infrastructure would provide a total storage volume of 11.7 billion gallons and an annual average water supply of 50 million gallons per day. It's billed to meet Hall County’s estimated water demand through the year 2060.
